Thank you for helping us raise over $3,500 for the First Responders Children’s Foundation

We organized a physical collectible charity auction on eBay in collaboration with 12 incredible partners, who donated over 15 collectibles! We want to give a huge shoutout to our company partners CGC Comics, McFarlane Toys, Beckett Collectibles, Rewind Grading, and CGA, and our good friends Eric Whiteback, Sleepyn Comics, Lori Brenner, Jason Randahl, Will Hecht, Ethan, and Simon for donating these amazing items and helping us raise over $3,500 for such an important cause.

The highest sale in the auction was for a CGC 9.8 graded Marvel Comics 1000 comic signed by 43 legendary comic artists and writers, including Jim Lee, Kevin Eastman, Rob Leifeld, and Jim Shooter. In our interview with Sean Caffrey (Senior Modern Comic Grader at CGC), he told us that over the span of a year this book had to travel from coast to coast, and even across the pond to London, in order to receive so many authenticated signatures. And somehow even after all the transportation and being handled by so many people, it still managed to fetch a 9.8 grade. This is a truly special book!

After 28 bids, the auction for the signed book closed out at $1834.09. We’re very excited for the winner and that all proceeds for the sale are going to FRCF, but we think this purchase was a steal and it should have sold much higher for how cool this book is!

Lastly, we’d like to thank Al Kahn and the First Responders Children’s Foundation for championing such a noble and impactful mission. Al, known for bringing major brands to market in the U.S. like Pokemon and Cabbage Patch Kids, founded the charity right after 9/11 when he discovered that 800 children lost a first responder parent responding to the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history.

Over the last 20 years, the foundation has made a significant impact for families who have lost a parent in the line of duty, providing $3.8 million in scholarships for over 1,300 children, $11.5 million in financial assistance grants, 1,100 hours of mental health counseling, and over 740,000 toys to children. Overall, they have helped over 1.2 million children of first responders. Check out our interview with the foundation’s CEO & President, Jillian Crane, to learn more about all the amazing work they do!

To all our collaborators and everyone who contributed, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering support and donations have made a huge difference in the lives of these children and families. You can continue to support FCFS by going to 1strcf.org or by texting STRONG to 24365.
